There seems to be what I call “can’t complain” culture, at least in north central Ohio, that I have to address as a therapist when people say they don’t have a right to feel bad because somebody has it worse.
I point out: by this logic, only one person in the world is allowed to be unhappy.

The absurdity of this kind of idea is what helps my counseling clients get free from a rule that they are not allowed to be complain because somebody else has it worse.
They shake off this restriction with a laugh when I say: by this logic, only one person in the world has the right to complain.

Nah, that would fall apart based on definitions of happiness that vary by culture and by individual, and also by sudden shifts in mood. Just psychologically.
