Looking around at the US in this moment, I feel a mixture of nausea + rage.
Nausea, for obvious reasons.
Rage?
Rage because for decades now, I've been trying to warn folks.

My daughter had a traumatic health issue when she was supposed to start school in GA. So, to spare her and the teachers, I homeschooled for 3 years. It was common there. What I witnessed in other homeschool families was horrible. We ended up avoiding them all. It was consistent with this.

That was my experience. I looked into socializing with the other homeschool kids so my son could make friends and noped right out. They span Christian lunacy to just not bothering to teach them a thing and raising freaks who can’t read or add.

The White Christian Nationalist homeschooling movement that began before (and ushered in) the Regan era in 1980 is so missing from the minds of most Americans that it’s missing that it’s missing.

Iran and the U.S. had religious resolutions at the same time, but ours went unnoticed for 40+ years.

The patriarchy was the same in both cases.

I homeschool a medically complicated son in Florida who couldn’t do in person. The state actually supports it with scholarships, so we have access to a lot of great curriculum, online classes and resources. But what I see with other families? There’s a reason the state is this freaking dumb.

As a docent in an art museum, the home schooler parents were the toughest clients. They often lacked whimsy. The idea that a motif could inspire new questions, frightening.
