I know Musk does not understand or care, but I think it is important to point out that being designated a terrorist org does not subject you to drone strikes. It comes with financial sanctions from OFAC and can subject US persons to criminal liability for providing material support

A lot of people (Musk probably included) conflate being designated a terrorist org with the way the GWOT drone war was conducted, because the AUMF in 2001 was explicitly against Al Qaeda, so being designated an Al Qaeda ally could get you droned under the AUMF
