If you imagine a scenario of victory over Trumpism, ask yourself if the image in your head might be related to a movie or a distant decade. If so, put it on the shelf. Make room for the harder work of thinking in the real and the present.

True. The energy is there but just like in any other life threatening emergency, there’s a lot of bystander syndrome. We are the ones we are waiting for.
We won’t be rid of this movement until USAmericans admit that our quality of life has always depended on forced labor. The further we stuff that down, the more ludicrous and jaded we will become.
It means totally remaking society with new institutions, new balance of social and economic power and resources, taming the isolating effect of algorithm led social media and breaking monopoly - at the very least. Otherwise an election win is temporary (if possible).
For sure! It’s what makes it so overwhelming to me sometimes.
I think the breadth of the coalition that’s needed to win a necessary electoral victory also makes it very hard to do the things necessary to undermine the causes of Trumpism.
I think a modern day New Deal politics would be enough.
To win short term, I think you need resistance in every part of society from chambers of commerce to labor unions, to feds and states and beyond to slow down the machine to create a path to mid term victories and then spend two years blocking as much as possible.
I spend a lot of time in my day job thinking about how to stop postal privatization and that one little corner is extremely hard and needs very thoughtful work and a bit of luck.
The only scenario in my head involves tons of people filling the streets. As I'm unsure what the official reaction would be to that, I refrain from speculating at all.
The image in my head is of a future that is better than anything we had in the past. A future with more equality, more inclusion and more opportunity. Where every life and every life choice is respected. Pie in the sky, but what the hell? Might as well shoot for the moon.
Prof, that's where you're wrong. With today's encrypted digital communication systems, it's possible to organize and mobilize on a scale never before accomplished. Not to mention that there are entirely enough armed Liberals out there for the solution I propose.
Well yes, but that's not what he's pointing at. Our visions are outdated! It's like those seemingly ridiculous student friends back in the 1990s with their Trotzkist pamphlets. It was not what the current world was about.
And our democratic visions today might unfortunately not be what the wordlwide situation is about. Social networking tools are the tool, but not the aim.
It doesn't matter what the worldwide situation is about... I'm talking about what the situation within the borders of the United States is about. I don't know about you, but I love our democratic Constitutional republic, and I'm willing to fight to keep it.
Trump's first instincts were to pack his original cabinet with generals. During the 2024 campaign, many wrote open letters warning the electorate of an impending, coordinated authoritarian takeover if he were to win.
We are living in a period that will reverberate for centuries. MASS PROTESTS NOW!
I think our first step needs to be to get more non-MAGA Governors elected. MAGA has already made States's rights one of their cornerstone arguments, so we need to use that to make states better, less reliant on the whims of Congress & the President. Compacts like universities are doing would help.

Only way. Not through the courts, the voting booths & certainly not through legislation.
Unity.
Purpose.
Hope.
Through community

Chucky needs to hear from all of us. Please call and urge him to support Al Green’s efforts.
