who do we have to fund to get a Flash-type editor for web interactivity again. i think the biggest issue with interactive web content these days is that it's just harder to make. Haxe and Godot can both export for HTML5 but it's way harder to make something in that compared to what Flash let you do - ThreadSky

honestly real. we don't have anything that allows us to just author experiences that can be easily sharable. html5/css/js was supposed to replace it but it's just not the same considering you have to put in 50x the effort and not even have it be easily sharable

yeah html5/js (not css bc really you'd want to use a canvas) replaced flash Player as a Core i guess, but nothing replaced the flash authoring tools which is like the most important thing that let people Create

idk why but i always assumed they added exporting to html5 when they rebranded flash pro to animate and ppl just didn't bother since there wasn't rly a community around the format or smth but i guess that was probably expecting waay too much from adobe

modern web and dev trends won't like it
it won't be accessible, it won't be responsive, it might be proprietary, etc etc
flash was born into a time where options and the web itself had little standards and flash was used for games, slides, video and interactive pages all the same

it will not become half as mainstream as what flash was and that's going to neuter its reach bc serious devs may not care & especially in an environment where younger people are increasingly getting less access to upload and talk about their experiments

I’ve thought about building something like this in an open source capacity but the biggest obstacle I see is data persistence. Most people expect the web to persist information about a user over time and that (usually) requires a server which is either an ongoing cost or added complexity

There are drag and drop editor tools for building apps that exist (ex. https://Bubble.io is one of many that comes to mind) but all of them come with some caveats or gotchas in my experience
