laughing my ass off at "CoDCleaner", added to MW2 (2009) on Steam in August 2023 that has the sole purpose of removing a file named "dsound.dll" from the game directory every time the game updates to try to purge an actual computer worm that was spread via MW2 multiplayer via remote code execution

mw2 is recompiled with 64bit target and a bunch of stuff stripped.
cod4.. is an old cod4 binary and they made a wrapper to handle the xbox stuff.
and of course nothing is compatible with existing versions
msstore bo2 is a new 64bit binary and has xbox one demonware stuff crammed into it despite predating it
Windows always* checks the current path for DLLs first before checking System32
not even try to block dsound.dll from loading and such??
the fact that activision went "hmm yes everything his fine here" when literal RCE exploits were happening is still baffling to me
