I love the s4 mk2, only with vdj though because i couldn't get used to it this play button position. I ended up swapping the bindings between pad 1 and the play button. (also i rebound the remix slots into 4 more pads so there are 8 like in most pioneer)
I stand heavily by traktor, but I've also never had a good experience trying to use rekordbox. Constant export issues, crashing, absurd prices, all push me far away.
idk everything is fine for me i just recommend it as the cheapest decent 4 channel for the price, my only reference is ive spilled a stupid amount of drinks on these decks and it still works like brand new lol its just most venues i kno aren't gunna let you not use rekordbox (cdjs everywhere)
if you could have 2 ecosystems i'd say just work with both for optimal coverage of everything but 800$ is a lot and im thinkin he rly wants the 4 channels and the ability to backspin or do quick loops and fx w/ pads
And I love traktor for that reason too. Like it’s easy to get into and easy-ish to understand and there is a lot you can do with it. I’ve heard too many bad things about rekordbox
i mean im just again recommending what is easiest to translate to what most venues will carry, in colorado for example the entire state runs on cdj 2000's which means you are using rekordbox unless you are headlining
i also should just say i do fuckin hate rekordbox is the standard im just speakin on budding artist terms, coolest venues let u rock whatever works for you just i dont see it often
Well and then there’s that too, I have literally 0 plans on ever djing live at a venue. Just not my thing. I’ll do it every now and then at home in VRC but that’s it. I don’t have an interest in pursuing anything “professional” or “irl live events” so I’m ok with what I’ve got too.
I've found that actually moving to a different controller isn't very difficult, control layouts are very homogenized these days. Every bad set I've had irl was because my rekordbox export was fucked in one way or another, not because I wasn't familiar with the controller.
