The official secrets act governs activity around classified information.

A security clearance covers what levels of information one is cleared to receive.
The two are not the same.

Don't be distracted. To receive a security clearance an individual's security risk is investigated. #ppCantDoit

I understand the argument for not wanting to be muzzled as the leader of HM loyal opposition (though I personally think it's a flimsy argument at best). What I can't fathom though is wilfully ignoring potential national security risks in your own caucas.

That's the thing though... ANYONE who has that clearance is equally muzzled, so it's a matter of wanting to know what's going on, OR, remaining ignorant and taking your chances that there's never anything important in those reports.

That's what I think the real reason is as well. There's either damning information in there about people in his party, or himself and he needs plausible deniability; or he's done something that would prevent him being cleared at the necessary level and he doesn't want a clearance denial to come out.
