Managing the feed has been a thing these last few weeks. Bluesky seems to have had more bots, aggregator accounts, and trolls - but also more posts. More posts meant that the filters needed to be more efficient or search a smaller range of time. I went with a shorter time window of 3 days.

I put some new updates into the filters, and it will be interesting to see how it turns out. There is definitely a difference in working hours posts on the feed compared to nights and weekends. The feed is pretty responsive to popular news and research, which seems like a good thing.

One thing that I added was mute lists. Filters help refine what's in the feed, but sometimes it makes more sense to mute whose posts can appear in the feed. I've been periodically muting 1) people with false positives that would be unlikely to post research and 2) redundant, low info aggregators.

We'll see how these adjustments work out this week. I could see the feed leaning more on popular media and personal posts than research as researchers go on vacation for the holidays. Some may see that as a dip in quality, depending on what they like most, but it should be temporary.

And... SkyFeed is down. Temporarily. I used SkyFeed to build the feed, so that's a problem. This is one of the bumps in the road that comes with the massive growth on the site. When the feed is back, you may see that I tweaked the filters, so phrases like "career suicide" shouldn't be in the feed.
