Well Elon Musk & other broligarchs have flipped that around: as they see it, they bought the US government (Musk alone spent ~quarter billion $), so now they get to break it. It's theirs.
That the things are public goods and democratic institutions built by and for the American people appears to be of no consequence to them...or to the shrinking number of people who might be in a position to stop them.
We the People made them rich by providing them with taxpayer-funded support, such as:
