They don't believe, obviously. Its a bunch of bullys too small and weak to actually bully people saying whatever they need to to gain some notion of power or control.
That's the beauty of the bible - there are so many contradictions and batshit-crazy stuff in there (mostly old testament), there's something to suit every bigoted lunatic's worldview. They always seem to miss what Jesus actually preached.
