This is disappointing as Daltons is a key, newer venue that's a growing part of the city and area's alternative music and lifestyle scene. Councils need to understand that these venues are primarily for live music - the club nights are often there to support that, whether financially or through building a community.

Most of the problems come back to austerity and greed, too. Extortionate privatised car parks, expensive/non-existent public transport and overpriced taxis are as much to blame as anything else.

There's such a warped view of what the night economy is, too. It isn't just clubnights - it's live music, comedy, restaurants, art. So much creativity that simply isn't being supported.

Live music is only part of the alternative music scene. Not everyone wants to go to the clubs and nights that are currently on, and the city needs somewhere like this to be honest with you.
When I was younger we had so many other venues and nights to go to, including The Gloucester, for example.

The police support it continuing as a live music venue. It's in the story. It's removing the performance requirement that secures the licence in the first place which is a concern.

It's the additional use that I'm also discussing here - it's great as a venue for live music, but the city is in need of an alternative late night venue with non-live music (as a replacement for Sticky Mikes, Gloucester etc), that's my point.

The no DJs only has always been a condition since this location secured a licence in 2020. This is to maintain its status as a performance-led venue which is why it was allowed to have an alcohol licence when council policy is for no new pubs, clubs, bars etc. in the central area. Live music, is ok.
