I met the owner Mahmoud when I last lived in Jerusalem, when he took the time to come speak to a group of rabbinical students at the Fuchsberg Center about his store and their mission. The bookshop is a hub of activism, learning, culture, and great coffee. 2/x

It’s through the literature that I have purchased at the shop over the years that I’ve gained a much richer and deeper appreciation of Palestinian art, and I’ve returned to these two books in particular over the past year.

Yesterday Mahmoud and his nephew Ahmad were arrested after the book shop was raided by Israeli police in a clear act of political repression. This is outrageous, and a clear act of violent state repression of political thought. 4/x
