To me the Dark Guardian design looks closer to matching the Destiny Hero series than anything.

Oh wow that card really does look like a destiny hero. Maybe it was a last minute, recycled design?

Or maybe an altered beta design for the heroes. The series did have a few big monsters like Dogma so they probably thought any more than that would be over doing it.
