Absolutely this. And sometimes I start at the end because I know more how I want to wrap things up, and by doing that, I can find that starting point as well.

Here’s a tip for critics, in particular: If you’re having trouble figuring out how to start a review, skip ahead and write the plot summary. You always have to write that part anyway, even if it’s super short. It’ll help you get into a writing rhythm, and the tone of the piece will lock into place.
