I have a feeling this book will only further radicalize me. But really, a society providing basic services for its citizens is not radical, every other developed country has managed to figure it out.

I read a study that found if you combine the spending on healthcare + social safety net on the US vs European countries they spend approximately the same amount. Except Europe spends more on a safety net and less on healthcare and has better outcomes. In the US we have a for profit health system

US spends around 18% of the gdp on healthcare and we don’t even have universal healthcare. All this and it’s put on the back of women to keep the whole thing afloat. I am so tired

Thanks! And yes, this fits right in that wheelhouse, with more emphasis on how we got here and on the myths that delude many Americans into thinking we can get by without a real safety net and that divide us by gender, race, class, etc. so we don't come together to demand that net we all deserve.
