I grew up in Indiana, and still have family there: have you seen the new HS diploma requirements?

Doesn't meet standards for in-state universities like Indiana or Purdue, for math, science, social studies, or world languages!

As my sister (a very attentive mom with two kids in Indy high schools) wrote to me last week:

"If an Indiana HS student doesn’t have an engaged adult (mentor, parent, guidance counselor) they can now graduate from HS and then be shocked to find out that in-state schools won’t accept them"

What does this mean? Are you saying it is possible to take classes that would not qualify you for college even if you graduate? Do colleges look at the classes you took? I thought they looked at your sats, I realize those may be on the way out, and the ranking of your high school.

Yes, there are specific class requirements for college admission. When I was in high school, I lived in a state that didn't require a foreign language for graduation (at the time, they have since changed it), which made students inadmissible at most good out-of-state institutions.

Fewer colleges are (soon to be were?) looking at SAT/ACT because of baked in social inequities and it's an attempt to make up for not having affirmative action. Schools also look for higher level coursework, like advanced courses.
