We went over 30 days with massive conglomerates taking a hit during the covid pandemic what makes us think that this will in any shape or form be at all effective? These oligarchs are like Smaug right now sitting on their mountain of fortune. They are literally laughing at us.
Also, don’t get me wrong, I have no intentions of spending today, and I almost exclusively generally buy repurposed stuff and try my hardest not to consume from these conglomerates. I just think this one day of non-consumerism is going to get laughed off by these oligarchs.
Yeah I know many conglomerates flourished like Home Depot and Target. But you think when a city like Vegas shuts down and when Disney shuts down that is a massive hit to major conglomerates which did nothing to really slow them down. I can’t imagine anything is going to slow these oligarchs down.
Again, I certainly support the cause and will participate and I generally participate in this activity on a daily basis or try as much as possible. Let’s see if we can organize a general strike that lasts a few weeks. Something where “essential workers” walk off their jobs for a month.
I doubt it will make a difference since ultimately what we really need is to dismantle capitalism. Still, I do appreciate a good boycott, so I’m on board and participating.
It's symbolic. No one thinks this will financially make a dent. It's just for showing the major companies we are not happy with the current administration and to all the major corps allegiance to and bowing to the "king." This is the start.
One can complain or try to act and make change. Your choice. But I for one applaud any effort to get rid of this threat to the entire world - no matter how small the act.
This is one of the first protests that people are actively saying they will be participating in. That's good, IMO.
Those people chose the wrong date. It's the end of the month, a Friday and a payday for a many. People with no groceries are going to go buy them TODAY because they have no choice.
March 1st was a better option. People who have the privilege of choice failed to consider those who don't.
Let me say that again -- it's Friday as the end of the month. There are people who had no money until TODAY. So buying groceries YESTERDAY was not an option.
"Should have" is privilege.
The point I'm trying to make is that the campaign should have been on a different day.
It is understood that not 100% of people will be able to do this and that's okay. Everyone needs to just do the best that they can. This is just the beginning.
Do local mom and pop stores not exist? If you're that desperate, you can always ask your neighbor. If the thought of changing where you shop or asking your neighbor for help makes you feel some type of way. I suggest you start getting comfortable there.

Although I am gonna go get eggs, but the short walk to the chicken coop is free!
