President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will sign an executive order to keep TikTok running in the U.S. for an additional 75 days as his administration continues to pursue a deal to sell the China-based company to a U.S. buyer.

The president said on his Truth Social platform that while the administration has made “tremendous progress” on a deal to “save TikTok,” the agreement “requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed.”
On Trump’s first day in office, he signed an executive order that originally delayed the ban on TikTok for 75 days after the app went dark right before his inauguration. The extension Trump initially signed was set to expire on Saturday, April 5.
Then-President Joe Biden signed a law last year requiring TikTok’s parent company ByteDance to divest the app or face a ban in the United States, citing national security concerns over TikTok’s Chinese ownership.
The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law in a unanimous ruling issued a few days before Trump’s inauguration.
Trump noted that he hoped to “continue working in good faith with China, who I understand are not very happy about our reciprocal tariffs” announced earlier this week.
