Is it really a good thing to get comics or even manga for free when sales determines alot of things, if a comic book should have a longer run, spinoffs of a successful comic? How do you determine a comic book series is successful besides sales?

It is an easily accessible way for people to experience these stories. It is basically free advertising! If people like these stories I don't doubt they will look for other stories within the same series, with the same characters, or by the same author.
