The free OF bots have found me. They don’t even bother changing the name or photo when they make more. I have nothing against SWers. I hate bots.

I'm reporting most of them but it's probably a waste of time - and I'm starting to wonder whether it's one way for Bluesky to boost its growth rate (so maybe not promoting those bots but not stopping them either?)

Yes. Scammers seem to be a part of life everywhere now. It's here too. I get them as friend requests but simply ignore them. The account will often be deleted later. I assume that is Bluesky working but the volume is probably a lot with all their other growth too.

It's more than moderation: these account are quite easy to identify as they behave in a very similar way: no interaction, following a large amount of accounts, minimal amount of post. AI can be trained to identify these accounts so we may see a lot less of these in the future.

Happens to us all, I see it as my civic duty to report then block. They’re trying to attract the small % of people who are easily conned.
I’m confident #Bluesky will get on top of it in time… and hopefully sooner than later.

Yes. I wake up every morning to a slew of new followers, mostly American who only post religious texts, 'inspirational' quotes or weird memes. I don't know what the point of these people is.

(But I think the pics are a good idea because I - and no doubt others - have to make quick decisions about whom to follow back and whom to perhaps block, and accounts without pics can seem suspicious, or at least not very serious)

I get flooded with bots! Yes I remember footprint discussion... but so many conversations, and a rather old brain 😒
