I was pretty underwhelmed when I saw it opening day. But something compelled me to go back & see it again & freed of my expectations, I fell in love with it. Not perfect & not my favorite of the series, but I've watched it so many times since. Indy is the real treasure that gets saved at the end.

I find it interesting how The Great Circle was so massively positively received (rightly so) and there was more backlash against Dial, which I think is the 3rd best Indy. I feel like it’s more to do with people not wanting to see their hero old and less capable than the merit of the film itself.

Narratively The Dial Of Destiny has so much more to say and dig into. I just love it. We have grown up with Indy to some degree and I can see how some people maybe don’t want to see their heroes age, because it reminds them of their own mortality.

Anyway. Dial rocks yeah.

I feel one of the main messages of the movie was that no matter how old you are, you can still matter and have purpose. It could have took the cop out ending but went on a hopeful note.

PS. The same can apply for Luke in The Last Jedi. A film that’s really rich in narrative storytelling, from a certain point of view.
