Things about NCAA gymnastics currently bugging me: the commentary is so bad rn, judging, 2 pass floor routines, the SEC only taking 8 teams for confc champs. If we are gonna have this high of scores, we deserve higher level D score routines to be 10’s, & a 3 pass routine for a 10. ☕️ - ThreadSky

Another aspect of this that I find fascinating. #GenX gymfans grew up with Kathy and the up-and-comers can benefit from her expertise. So why give her the boot at a time when the sport is seeing such a massive resurgence?

She has said that the last year, she noticed being not included in meetings & such & felt that they were moving towards a different combo than her & Bart so she resigned. It wasnt like a “I want to retire” thing, more of a “I have some dignity & respect myself” kind of retirement.

I respect those who appreciate the 2 pass routines.. I just think they need a bit more difficulty if that is now the standard, for the 10.0 start value.

Okay I am fascinated by this stuff. Jen has taught me SO much about the politics of the sport (she’s the best big sister) so would the scoring be weighted depending on the type of pass?

Cumulative difficulty of the tumbling passes & dance elements combined give you the difficulty score. Then the judges deduct from this score when they judge the routine to give their scores. Then the scores the judges give are averaged for the final score.

Yes, a governing body decides what each move will be rated for difficulty. For Elite it is the FIG, & for NCAA it is vibes (just kidding.. they have rules they follow like the level 10 code.)
