The other day someone here was saying, "Why are so many people down on AI?" and the answer is because it's a moneymaking scheme being sold as both a religion and the solution to everything by a few guys who don't just want all the money, they also want all of the creativity, fun, water, energy
If AI was a cautionary tale about an ancient cadre of gods who decided to make themselves unfathomably rich by stealing everything from everyone else in exchange for magic beans we'd all be rolling our eyes at how unsurprising the plot twist was.
If these were people and not things, we’d be hearing about the latest breakthrough in fangs instead of asking why these vampires in our town have to be fed or die. Oh wait hang on…
Yep. It’s all about the money. The thing driving how OpenAI went about things with hype is their business model. The thing so many hate about what the industry is doing is the economics. A lot of the backlash against tech in general has been the capitalism on steroids.
