I have also had the opportunity to work in both private and public sector as well, and I work just as hard if not harder in the public sector. I do the job I do because I WANT to. It was certainly not the pay that lured me in. You have to want to do this work.
This book is a fantastic debunking of the mythology surrounding private sector innovation - it's one of the key myths that has enabled the fetishisation of people like Musk to blind everyone to his fascism https://marianamazzucato.com/books/the-entrepreneurial-state/
Logistics work has been referred to as "necessary waste," especially in the 90's. Because it doesn't actually bring in money, according to them. But when one of their customer's machines break down and they need a part, and they get it on time...
The issue here, is that sociopaths driven completely and exclusively by unalloyed self-interest are simply unable to conceive that anyone could do otherwise.
For the first time in my life, I'm grateful I didn't get fair pay, excellent benefits, 13+ paid federal holidays a year, job security, severance pay, and vacation pay. If I ever did and lost my job, I'd still be grateful FOR THE PRIVELEDGE. I'm glad he's doing rude ass federal employees first
As a public school teacher, this is so upsetting. In our state, which is favoring privatization, we see public funds going to schools that hire non-certified teachers and have no oversight over spending; if they are charter, when they close, the public school district has to bail out their debt.
Thanks for this.. great write up. They have also called us “enemies”..
Majority of the feds dedicate their careers and their lives to serving this country. It’s just sad to see how easy it is to influence a population to hate the public sector so easily.
A positive. 50 protests. 50 states. No Marshal Law from POTUS. However, for psych therapy reasons, suggest also channeling frustrations to win non-voters, 2026 election, House, Senate; then impeach OJ (Orange Jesus), impeach/fix SCOTUS, make laws (not rules) so THIS SH*T NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN! RESIST!
Congress did that after Nixon resigned. But then the Rogers (Stone & Ailes) got together with Rupert Murdock and started a propaganda media network right here in the good ole US of A. And they have been gaslighting conservatives ever since. And that’s jow we are here
Yep, but Dems did not match them in media co. acquisition, social platform reach (where voters get info), NON-VOTER wins, highly aggressive pushback, resist as a true "opposition party", etc. Won 31+% eligible voters to Harris, vs 32-% tRUmp, vs 1+% other, vs 36+% non-vote is closer than advertised.
The incentive structure under our current economic paradym rewards and thereby encourages sociopathic behavior. The system is causing disintegration of social cohesion. In other words, it's making us all a bunch of narcissistic Ass Holes.
What do these tech toddlers know or care about public service?

I have a theory. On average, humans that work in civil service (i.e., not politicians) and non-profits are more moral than humans that work in the private sector.
I spent 15 years in the private sector up here in Canada. I've been a civil servant for the past 15 because it's so much more rewarding helping my fellow citizens with real-world issues rather than brainwashing them into buying junk they don't need. Altruism is a strength; greed is a weakness.
This is a good time to reread "The Fifth Risk" by Michael Lewis. Only the federal govt can manage risks like disease, climate change, and cybercrime. It is exceedingly dangerous to push out public servant experts. https://wwnorton.com/books/The-Fifth-Risk/
People should read Michael Lewis’s book the 5th Risk- tells you all about what some of our public servants spoil them away anonymously or infer to us. It was such a heartening book… and a page turner. Really made me appreciate what my tax dollars pay for!
Precisely. IMO, government is where a society comes together to select/plan/fund/do those things for the benefit of all, which should have no purpose for profit. That does not make it some inferior endeavor. It does not make public servants some foreign power.
Sadly, these despots do not and cannot comprehend real loyalty and dedication. If it doesn't make you more wealthy, if it isn't mind-blowingly creative and popular and disruptive, it has no value in the billionaire tech oligarch mindset.
Apart from anything else, Musk really is not very bright. Narcissism, will and energy - unencumbered by reflection, self-criticism, maturity, or an ability to see other points of view - can look like brilliance. But it isn't.
