Also, I would assume the "do not microwave" there means not to microwave the bag, rather than not to steep in microwaved water, without more obvious snark on the bag. It's possible the bag isn't microwave safe (for example, many tea bags are stapled)

This is mostly for liability reasons. They don't want Americans to use a non-microwave-safe mug and burn themselves when they go to sip their tea. Brits are already well aware of what dishes can and can't go in the microwave, as this is important to their culture.
