Real talk, age isn't really a factor when getting a Ph D. It skews younger because it's a system that pays peanuts and expects you to uproot your life constantly, and it can be tough to get application mats, but if you wanna go for it you def can. In physics there are a lot of older military vets.

Well, I’m closing in on Social Security age. Part of my concern is getting out of the US under the current regime. I was laid off over a year ago and have been taking care of my elderly dad and mom who is health declined shortly thereafter so I’m not pinned down here by a job when they pass.
