It's time to say bollocks to British pride and abandon the bayonet cap light bulb. They're shit and there would be no shame in a wholesale switch to the Edison screw fitting.

Not on board with this. In general a bayonet fitting can be removed and replaced with one hand. The screw fitting needs a hand to hold the fitting and a hand to screw the bulb. Just no.
Well, the 'in general' might be doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence, but as it happens I have taken tomorrow as annual leave so I will try and find the loosest bayonet fitting on the most sturdy pendant flex I have in the house just so I can demonstrate changing a light bulb one handed.
I will then send you my bank details by suitably secure methods and you can transfer to me my handsome 50pence winnings which I shall screen shot and parade to the world as if it were a triumph of great ingenuity and deft.
My wife is going to be so angry with me tomorrow when I have to explain that putting up our Christmas garland is delayed because I need to prove to a picture of a child from the 1970s that a bayonet light bulb can be changed one handed. However, some things are worth standing and fighting for.
100%. Let’s do a deal: we’ll go ES if the rest of the world go proper British 3-pin plug. The loose-as-you-like 2-pin European plugs are a joke, the US / Japanese flat things are like a drawing of a plug, and some Chinese plugs are borderline racist
Nope. The American pride prevents them from changing their ways but even Hollywood acknowledged in Iron Man that the light bulb in Tony Stark’s chest was a bayonet fitting.

I will tell my grandchildren of this day.
Have patience, for annual leave comes forth with alarming persistence.
