Protests in Serbia have been ongoing since November 2024 and, according to analysts, are even more widespread than 24 years ago, when Serbs went on strike against the then authoritarian president Slobodan Milosevic
People took to the streets to protest in memory of the victims of the collapse of part of the roof of the train station building in the city of Novi Sad in November, which killed 14 people.
Protesters say corruption, nepotism and shoddy construction work led to the tragedy.
They are demanding the swift prosecution of those responsible and the resignation of Vucic.
Teachers joined the student strike, closing most schools in Belgrade. Theaters announced they would not be showing evening performances, and 45 bookstores also closed.
"Students and teachers need our support in the fight for a fair system of values in society," >>
