Could always finish the outside, then use beeswax on the inside. Go old school.

I can't recommend this stuff enough. It's a Walnut Oil and Shellac mix that goes great on everything I've turned

For surfaces that need to be food safe, I use either a mix of beeswax and linseed oil (though it takes a week to cure before it is safe) or spray polyurethane. I usually use the polyurethane on cups and bowls because I don't want the smell of the oil mixing with whatever I put in them.

Never found anything like this when I first started making wooden dishes. I might switch to mineral oil.
