Interesting. So maybe a more “mid-tier” president with less immediate success would have been better for the country long term. I have to reject that on the basis of life is short and there are people that need help now. Biden’s legacy won’t be fully appreciated for years. Hindsight being 20/20
Is there somewhere I can get info about the weekly show, ie when is the next video, is there a pay site becuse some episodes apear to be missing, most recent episodes, ect? YT only says something like, "on Mondays jon does this but on thursdays.." and then a month goes buy without any content.
They had a really long hiatus for the holiday season. But before that the podcast was coming out on Tuesday consistently. I think that's when it's posted on YT too
Been watching the pod on and off since it started, been loving it. I appreciate seeing historians on the show that help show different perspectives on how we got here. And I think it's funny Jon can't stop thinking about how analog democracy is. 😂
Really good show - think I came away a bit positive.
So this is an utter collapse of USA as we have known it - but something good will come out of the ashes?
Great show. One thing. It is not that everyone wants power. Everyone has power. Every single person on the planet has power. The power to choose. The power to speak. The power to write. The power to leave. The power to stay.
Not everyone seeks the power of modern day society.
Anyone else get really excited every time Jon mentions the idea of democracy being an analog system in a digital age? Like it's a special easter egg that has to be dropped once an episode?
My opinion is a resounding "Yes." I appreciate the dilemma. But it was so bad in 2020, and I'm not convinced we wouldn't have just gotten here 4 years earlier.
The successes of Biden’s presidency did not create electoral risks. They're 2 different things. Mainstream media (MSM) didn't trumpet those successes the way Fox applauds and reinterprets Trump's idiocies.
QUESTION: Did the MSM (especially TV) give Trump the win by being overly negative to Biden?
I loved this interview. Jon Meacham is so interesting and I totally agree. Meacham is my “chicken soup” too. I plan to keep a lot on hand for the next 4 years.
Just watched and absolutely loved and truly appreciate this intelligent discussion. Many thanks to you both! Please have J.M. on more; he helps make sense of current affairs with his historical background (which I, as most Americans, seriously lack in knowledge…).
💗🙏
Jon Meacham is a national treasure! And I can relate to his kids. Ok—maybe not being taken to committee hearings for vacations. But yes, we visited “Ft. This” and “Ft. That” on our summers. lol
Part of our problem is that everyone lives in their own information bubbles. Disinformation runs rampant and will only get worse with social media giving in to the pressure not to try to combat it.
We've always lived in bubbles. The main difference between then and now is that now we can see what the other bubble is saying...and it seems to be a bit of a shocker...
TG for The Weekly Show for offering some insight into why the other bubble is so different from ours.
Jon, please run for president. You are the only one who has the communication skills and the public profile that is required to cut through the noise to truly speak to the American people. We see that qualifications don’t really matter anymore, so don’t let that stop you.
Jon, I have to share my regrets - I was a jaded high school student in NJ at the turn of the millennium and you came to my school for a Parkinson's fundraiser. I was on the tech crew but I thought I was too cool to go meet you. I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?
As a citizen of a possible 51st state, I felt a pressing need to learn more about US political history. This episode provided a mountain of insight, thank you! I went from: "I don't get what they're doing down there" to "oh, I can see how this could have happened". Strength, this too will pass.
Was it worth it? Yes. If not for Biden running & winning in 2020, Trump would’ve won; we would be years behind in fighting Covid (& dealing with so many more deaths), we would have had that recession with no hope of the infrastructure bill.
Now to stop the worst from happening in this term.

Always makes me laugh.
