I've watched you on the daily show when I was still in elementary. (Sorry to age you like that) But what truly sparked it for me is when I saw that as a people, we were crazy enough to Reelect King orange. Or operation lone star..
My mum taking me on a march for fair pay for nurses as a kid in the 70s. The same mum, as a specialist infectious diseases nurse in the 80s, being on her London borough's committee that put together a compassionate care policy for nursing people with AIDS. Neither should've been political, but were.
Keeping it all the way real...John Stewart was my first celebrity crush. I was probably 16ish when I started watching the daily show, it really opened my world (fam was fox news watchers) this made politics digestible. Keep up the great work.
THE JON STEWART WHO BANISHED TUCKER CARLSON FROM TELEVISION FOR YEARS WOULD BE ROASTING YOU WITHIN AN INCH OF YOUR LIFE FOR YOUR NORMALIZING, ‘BOTH SIDES’ BULLSHIT.
Gee maybe it was when you invited rapist Bill O Riley onto your show to have a good old laugh about how much fun you both had platforming him? That wasn't a mistake, you did that of your own volition. I hope you wake up every day feeling as much shame as it possible to feel.
The booming of Iraq sharing a front page headline with gay marriage being legalized and realizing how easy we turn to hate and violence and use the same level energy to oppose love and unity.
I've been a democrat since I turned 18. But after this last election I'm a democratic socialist and looking for democrats or others to follow into a revolution. These republican idiots! Caring for the wants of 3,000 billionaires over the needs of 9,000,000,000 🇺🇸
Some of my earliest memories are of me sitting on the floor staring at the big box tv while my mom was watching The Daily Show. Jon’s face when reacting to something stupid Bush did/said is burned into my memory forever.
Yup in the 60’s - It was every night, after dinner or thereabouts that they’d roll the tapes of the fighting, then they listed the names of the KIA, then they handed out the POW bracelets, and we cried.
Same! Grew up in a very Republican household, but as I hit high school and beyond, so much of what happened under W's administration felt so wrong to me. Jon had a lot to do with me understanding it.
I lived in OKC when the bombing happened. I remember the Bush/Gore election in 2000 smelling funny, but I wasn't even 10 yet, then 9/11 happened. Watching Jon on TDS in the 2000s gave me words to understand these events that my parents weren't able to give me.
My 16 year old caregiver/housekeeper from Mississippi loved me into knowing that diversity makes us better people. Vigorous arguments between adults around me made me look at Vietnam. My friend collected money to get her brother to Canada. It was eye opening.
Watching the daily show in my early teens during the 2000s sparked my invest in holding our leaders accountable, if not directly then through our own personal knowledge to help each of us to make sense of this world we live in.
i thought I was politically engaged because i could see that the "american dream" wasn't getting very far for me, in spite of the fact that I was privileged and well educated. (oh, you paid $40,000 for college? here's a $13,000 a year job) ...
but that was the 1990s -- then one day in 2005, I was walking home when a policeman rode past me on horseback and smacked a young black man, walking ahead of me, with his stick, admonishing him for being in the wrong part of town. that woke me up.
