I remember this. They were like kitchen or maybe garage storage trays that just happened to be the exact width of a US comic book. I can even picture the photo in my head. I just can't find the post, or remember who posted it, but am now a little obsessed so will keep trying.

I'm pretty sure it was something like this. Definitely had the scooped front, which helped show off the front covers. Found this image on a UK packaging company site. 7.75 inches wide so not exactly right, but only cost a few pounds each when bought in bulk (you have to order in units of 10).
