I remember talking to an American University Student on exchange here in Australia back in 2001. He was so shocked by the anti-American sentiment he encountered everywhere. He told us that in school they were taught that the rest of the world wanted to be either like America or go to America.

If Americans would take the time to see how other countries use their tax dollars to better the lives of their citizens they would be outraged over our system. Instead we drink the propaganda kool-aid, and hate on our fellow citizens.

I’m Swiss, having lived a few years in the US. Unfortunately I have to agree, your public school system is pretty bad. Even worse higher education. My younger son works on a master in visual communication, price per semester CHF 600. They’ll enter professional life without debts.

My German born husband came here first in high school and was stunned to hear stupid questions by his american Midwest counterparts. Brilliant questions such as is Germany on the east coast? Or is Hitler still in charge? 2 generations of dumb ass american students who today vote maga & for trump.
Traveling anywhere in the world we always took pains to demonstrate that we were Canadian not American. As soon as we did, the attitude of the locals changed from frosty to warm, from suspicious to welcoming. It is never right to stereotype people, but those attitudes have persisted for a long time.
He's not wrong... More than 22-years living outside of the US showed me that America is a land of sheep and lemmings. America has never won a war by themselves, but they act like they own the locker-room.

American hubris. In Peru, I was on a bus trip at a stop. Some Peruvian ladies were selling various items. All of the sudden I hear this fucking Karen yelling at one of them about "learning speak English" 🤬 in THEIR COUNTRY. I was embarrassed that I did not speak their language. It was horrible.
I recently had a discussion on Bluesky with a Trump supporter who didn't know what the powers of Congress are, apparently had never read the Constitution, and who thinks that the president is empowered to bypass Congress and do whatever he wants. I told him he's an authoritarian and he was insulted.
What me, from EU, amuses the most... how did they convince citizens that the gov will not fulfill it's the most capitalist duty: to care for the country's greatest resource - the people.

US citizens tend to be more provincial, less educated and, indeed brainwashed into believing not only that the US is the best country but that they have a representative government.
