MLSE is a big multi sport conglomerate. Their prized asset is the Maple Leafs who haven’t won anything since 1966. Their other teams Toronto FC have been a shambles for most of their existence. So no guarantee of cash and success.
In my heart of hearts I would prefer them and other Scottish teams to be run well. American franchise takeovers? Not exactly a large number of examples where that has went well.
The Boehly one at Chelsea is misleading. That is Guggenhiem baseball. Their deal with the LA Dodgers (& Lakers) is spend a lot then try to tie fans into deals for everything, in the hope it pays for it all. Mobile deals, car insurance even buying cars. The catch? The prices they charge are mental.
Step 1 ... they have to buy the shares required to get control

Step 3 where does the money come from to "invest"? Or what assets are there to be stripped?
Buying some other mugs shares and debt is not investing
