Very sad. Brought me to recall my father’s experience nearly 80 years ago when he was a soldier in Magdeburg in the last months of WW2. Liberating nearby prison camps. Poverty, exhaustion, torture, relieved local people… and handing over ‘control’ to shabby and weary Russian ‘allies’. Sad still.
