I do not blame them. Having worked in prisons my entire career they are brutal environments. Your safety on a good day is always compromised. I can’t even imagine not getting paid. Who is going to jeopardize the safety for free?

Some local allies stepped in, despite the fact that their funds are also being cut. I think the people who left were employees, hired to watch extremely dangerous people. A Kurdish group known as the Syrian Democratic Forces stepped in when we dropped the ball.
