A good knowledge rabbit hole to become fascinated by Mary. I raced through the book as the unfolding tragedy was so gripping and so well told. Mrs M has looked out 2 other books she has on Chernobyl for me 😬

It was a side note in the GDR news - stating everything was safe after a minor issue. But there were soon a lot of rumors, people secretly had watched west tv or had spoken to sailors. We threw away the whole garden harvest that year and that was hard, there was not much to buy in the dying GDR.
