Farmers are a very diverse bunch. Many are in favour of rewilding, but I think this needs to be part of wider reforms of our food system

Agreed but big farmer has the power and they have no interest in rewilding. See this in Brussels with the farmers defence force and trying to water down the environmental policies or england with heritage tax protest. Small farmers are struggling and need help to transform but big farm is the issue

It's the highlands where folk see reintroductions happening. So think skeptical crofting communities rather than a few stubborn farmers. However no one is addressing concerns in these communities. If serious about promoting reintroductions I'd be addressing that skepticism from the ground up.

I think you have a far bigger problem with land ownership, grouse and stag shooting. The burning of land annually and mass killing of raptors by game keeper’s is a far bigger issue imo

I don't recognise that characterisation. There are issues for sure but those are largely localised.

Point I'm making is, court local public support in the locality of proposed reintroduction sites, when there's a ground swell of support from the people on the ground politicians will fall in line.

In 2020 Colorado had a referendum on reintroduction of wolves which passed (though it remains controversial). Wolves are now back in Colorado!
