This is Australia’s national tragedy. We are as blind to the effects of our utterly dysfunctional, segregated schooling system as Americans are to their lack of gun control. https://www.smh.com.au/national/how-the-bank-of-nan-and-pop-is-making-our-polarised-school-system-even-worse-20250103-p5l1x0.html

Lets stop funding schools who turn children in their catchment away.
Your hard earned taxes should not be funding a school your kid is excluded from.

(Disclaimer: My own kids go to one, but I’d actually prefer all schools to have the facilities, resources and staff they need to provide high quality schooling to all children.)
Lecturing parents is not a winning strategy, or a solution. Public schools need better resources.
They shouldn't. fyi The reason many go is because there's no public boarding schools, remote area.
Australia-3 tiers = private (36%) + selective and public schools.
NZ has no selective, just 4% children in private & 96% in public schools.
It obviously doesn't enhance educational outcomes. Why do we insist on such a divisive system?
You don't need to try too hard to be qualified for a job if your school friend's parent runs a company, especially if that parent also went to that school.
1. the privileged will resist;
2. the transition would be vulnerable to tactics, such as the Goulburn School Strike:

The taxation system might also need tweaking.
a). It would not happen
b). The money would go to The Smith Family charity to help disadvantaged kids enjoy the full benefits of a public education

Honestly the state school they were in is a *really good school* I can’t stress that enough, & they had friends there.
You can pretty much guarantee that the majority of people in any elite American institution went to exclusive private schools and then on to expensive private colleges, if not the Ivy League.
Public school kids work for them.
The exclusive privates tend to raise tuition to absorb the voucher and still be exclusive, but that public money still goes to them.
It’s draining public school budgets everywhere its in practice.
