My kid has too, and I called Walker to ask “do I really need to take this whole dr’s note business seriously?” and was told that in fact I did not, but that the school is required to send these letters (to each parent no less!) by the state

I got a similar letter and they listed the dates my daughter was out with the flu. We did have a doctors note and it has been submitted to them electronically and in person and we still got a warning letter.

Nope it's dumb. They just created some policy that they're following up on but it doesn't actually matter. You can always email the school to tell them why your kid was out if you're concerned.

My kid prob. had the flu, he is vaxed & slept 15 hrs straight, 1 hr up, slept another 6 hrs, 3 hrs up and went back to bed. I didn’t want to drag him to the doc. He was able to go back to school after a day of rest. I call every time he is out and excuse him. It’s a bit much panic from school.

I get that it is important for kids to be in school, but with all the sickness missing five days seems like…not a big deal? When pneumonia went through CHS this fall some kids were out 7-10 days. Flu A is knocking them out for several days at minimum.

The year we got the letter my kid had the flu twice. Between illness, snow days and holidays, she didn’t have a full week of school from early December through March. That winter was rough.
She kept her grades up though.

I don’t know it helps or not to know the level of pressure that schools are under since March 2020 are excruciating. Heck, TEACHER absences are being monitored closely, as well. Whoever the staff member that has to implement the policy is just doing what they have to. The Governor’s policy, that is.
