I'm engaged by Gimai Seikatsu's love for analogue texture, & irked that that love doesn't extend to its plasticky, over-perfect background environments.

Yeah, it's a shame! Of course most episodes aren't going to have standout corridors, classrooms &c, but at least in the past even humdrum backgrounds more often looked like they were part of the same world.
The show presents its two leads distinctly, in voice performance & motion, from the other figures: Narasaka and Yomiuri (say) are drawn & acted as familiar anime types.
Whether that tension's fruitful or weakening is up to you.
(I don't think the use of types *itself* is a problem.)

If I believed in narrative and character, which I don't, I'd have questions about the fact that Ayamura seemingly lacks real problems, unlike Ayase.
