My dear Pecksniff. I try to imagine a scenario in which I wake up on election morning contemplating voting Tory in order to return to the EU. The shudders, my dear. Frank, the ex bus driver, who is our litmus test in matters of controversy, seems to think a pro European stance spells disaster.

Frank, I have no doubt, is pro European. His concern seems to be that stirring up the crap from 2016 will be divisive and time consuming. Clearly a McSweeney man. But if Labour moved with the Tory rump to a pro Europe stance, only RefUK would be left as Brexiteers and the choice would be simple.

One can hope. In the meantime the manoeuvres on the mayoral position are quite dreadful. I see no Norfolk names but expect the appalling Kay Mason Billig to emerge. If ever there was a strong reason for abandoning the whole thing, there it is. One wonders if Rupert Lowe might be persuaded?
