#Canada There is still US produce in my grocery store. I have had no problem staying away from US produce by doing a few substitutions - eg Canadian bok choy instead of American celery. If you know anyone who grows lovage or you see it in the stores, it's a great substitute for celery, flavour-wise (no crunch, though). If grown from seed, it's harvestable before celery, as well. It's a perennial, so it will grow for years. It also dries nicely if you have a big harvest.

I used to grow it, and I put it in everything. When I was more financially secure, I was able to almost exclusively buy local, and since local celery isn't available year round, lovage filled much of the need for half the year. I hope you give it a try!

Celery is really easy to grow in large pots. I started with one and it spread its seed into every possible growing spot. Freezes well too if you have surplus.

We quite enjoy our Canadian Bok Choy and is practically a daily staple. When cooking, I chop the end like celery and cook them first and then add the leaves towards the end. We use I’m noodle / pasta and rice dishes.
