I'm not saying we should let the city run the subways (no, really, no!), but the fact that the MTA and city can't see the benefits of a closer relationship is why we can't have nice things.

In fact, merging transit with development is exactly what cities like Hong Kong do. The MTR is a real estate developer as well as the transit operator.
