Whenever I go to Germany, the Netherlands or a Scandanavian country, I'm reminded how simple a bottle-return scheme is. The Tories delayes rollout in the UK - AGAIN - because the drinks industry opposed the plans to include glass bottles, which the Welsh and Scottish government want included.

Even in Quebec! I travel to Montreal sometimes, and the IGA grocery store near my usual hotel has a bottle-return spot. Their street garbage cans have a special spot to put your empty containers so that others can come by and collect them to make a buck, a way they support their homeless population

I had a chat about this with a guy from Big Rock a couple years ago. He told me no matter the effort they make to avoid it, loss due to breakage during shipping gets worse all the time: ongoing issues with roads and truckers under the cosh probably contribute to that.

We need to build a mill or millls to make the cans in Canada.

The insane part of this is I think a lot of the Al in the cans is smelted in Canada, then shipped to the USA to make the cans, then the empty cans are shipped back to Canada for the brewers.
