Yeah, all my work has an obsessive-compulsive quality. I'm very picky about composition & deliberate order. Every once in a while I try to mix it up by splashing paint on a collage, but it never comes out well.

I'm the same way. I try to push myself to be freer and let "happy accidents" happen but I never like the results. It's interesting you say this though because your work has a nice, intuitive quality that I really like.
Intriguing point. Is being deliberate & OC the opposite of being intuitive? I don't think that's necessarily the case. I sit at my work table & listen hard to my subconscious, then I work very carefully to follow its dictates.
Yes, I think that is an intuitive approach. Somehow, artists have come to believe that you have to work with some wild abandon in order to tap into your unconcious. I don't believe that's true. I may have *moments* when I'm starting a new project where I seem like I'm just freestyling it, but...
in the end, I'm always reacting to what I have already done and very deliberately going forward. This is a really interesting question - thanks for making me think a bit about how I work and realize that deliberate choices can be intuitive ones too.
