Of the 3 possible mistakes here:
- Calling him 'Steph-on' instead of 'Steph-en'
- Calling him Seth
- Leaving KD's name in the slid deck
The KD thing is worst by far IMO. But the offer was much better from UA ($4mm + signature shoe vs $2.5mm) anyway. So why would he not go with UA no matter what?
Hard to argue he shouldn’t have taken more upfront money given where he was in his career at the time, but there’s no doubt that the Nike machine is more formidable than UA. When Steph won Finals MVP in 2022, UA just sent a tweet. Nike would’ve had a TV ad ready to go.
I'm not familiar with this side of the business at all but even if the upfront money was the same wouldn't signature shoe from UA > Nike machine? Or does that not really matter?
Eh. Klay Thompson has a mega shoe deal with ANTA out of China and barely anyone even knows that company exists in America. I don’t think I’ve ever seen his shoe in real life.
I just think Steph would be more of a global brand and wealthier if he was w/ Nike
