I was very sceptical about social prescribing until I saw it in action. Definitely a fan, as long as the social groups that the prescriber can tap into are also still there. Small local groups find it very difficult to attract ongoing funding

Was fortunate to take part in a meeting with a care home provider and GP practice, 1st meet for all. Both parties passionate about integration and social prescribing. They discussed how the skills and knowledge of both teams could help to develop each others team. Phenomenal meeting. Inspirational.

Yes,for a while these things have seemed literally "soft options" when they can be supportive foundations for people, particularly those who may be isolated and may not have the know-how or confidence to engage with those sorts of activities.

I really dislike the term ‘social prescribing’ In my view it’s medicalising community connections. The problem is the groups that people are connecting to are often run on a thread with precarious 3rd sector funding, these groups are amazing value for money but do need proper recognition & funding

Spend less time on performance reporting. I was listening to a group of voluntary sector organisations recently who explained that they don’t bid for NHS contracts because the amount of performance reporting required makes the contract unviable.

Having worked in both sectors the health service has the arrogance of a big organisation that their way is the only way . Always amazes me that they are deaf to the talents of the third sector who are often so fleet of foot and work with such creativity cause they don’t have the stability of the NHS

Certainly on strategic level, but 3rd sector is very effective at local level in supporting, extending & embedding Rx outcomes, moving from health settings to home.
Health can't provide l-t intervention. It's vital that input is not diminished at discharge: 3rd sector collaboration is essential.

Agree but would be helpful to think how 3rd sector can be meaningful brought in at strategic level. Also time & time again hear 3sector monies cut 1st even though they are highly cost effective. Their staff have nothing like the salaries or security of NHS staff
