They're moreso teacher and student, and they're just using each other as means to an end. Ganta uses Kiyomasa as a way to get stronger, and Kiyomasa uses Ganta as a way to be superior to someone.

Plus, in the FINAL ARC, SHIRO'S ARC, He usurps Shiro's spot in saving Ganta from Toto, in where he has no real reason to be there, he is literally a odd duck out.
Like, what story does Kiyomasa really have with Toto? What story does he have with Hagire? What story does he have with the twins?
And lastly, his """Gag""" with girls (GIRLS WHO ARE UNDERAGE, MIND YOU), isn't funny? In fact, borders on creepy, and sus behavior? He's a 26 year old man, dude.
At least Yamcha's behavior in the early arcs never extended to children like Chi-Chi.
And last thing on Kiyomasa, he looks like a character designed by Rob Liefeld. The eye patch, I get, but why is he wearing combat boots, why is he wearing a longcoat, why is he anything.
And if he's a veteran in this ish, where are his scars?
Anyways, Deadman Wonderland is not just a "gore manga", that's just looking in from the outside, not seeing the full picture. Deadman Wonderland is, at the end of the day, a shonen manga. One that has been misrepresented and misinterpreted for years, mainly bc of the anime.

Look at this man's eyes. That's not PTSD. That's pure malice. And he never really apologizes for this?

You know who does have a story with them? SHIRO! THIS IS SHIRO'S ARC!

He looks like Gajeel, only worse designed.
